we spent our last community day at a women's cooperative in juarez-- a place full of hope in a colonia built on an old garbage dump. one of my roommates works there every day and it was so good to spend some time out there and learn more about the work being done. the most exciting part to me was a garden project in which the residents of the desolate area are provided with the base to start their own garden. we walked into people's yards and were amazed as they lifted the covers with pride to reveal lush leaves of lettuce and brocolli and carrots and cilantro!! it was really magical.
